Your feet are your body’s foundation. Structural imbalances there can lead to constant pain in your back, hips, and/or knees. A foot scan can reveal any issues. Then custom foot orthotics can give your arches the support needed to keep your body balanced and pain-free.

With chiropractors skilled in orthotics, Summit Spine and Wellness can correct the pain and imbalance you may be experiencing. We will do an examination to decide if you need custom orthotics to deal with structural imbalances in your body, alleviate your pain, and improve your ability to walk and run. Custom-fit orthotics shoe inserts can reduce your symptoms, protect your feet, and help you avoid surgery.

How Orthotics Work

Custom orthotics do more than provide a cushion for your feet. They restructure the way your foot strikes the ground when you move, improve your balance, properly distribute your weight, protect your feet, and help to absorb some of the impacts when your foot strikes the ground.

There are different types of orthotics designed to meet specific needs and deal with various problems:

  1. Orthotics for people with soft tissue problems, such as diabetes. These shoe inserts are specially designed to reduce the pressure to areas of the feet where ulcers (open sores) may happen. This can reduce the need for amputation.
  2. Orthotics designed to improve how your foot strikes the ground. They work by bringing the ground up to the foot. These orthotics are helpful in treating physical problems such as tendinitis or shin splints.
  3. Orthotics can also be designed to help people keep their feet, ankles, and legs in alignment. Some people may experience their ankles rolling inward when they walk or run. Having an orthotic that corrects their alignment can reduce pain, not only in your feet but also in your knees and hips. Additionally, there will be less wear and tear on your joints because your body is now properly aligned.

Fitting Custom Foot Orthotics

Over-the-counter shoe inserts can be found at many different pharmacies and shoe stores. Often, these will work satisfactorily. However, when you have more serious foot conditions, a customized foot orthotic will work considerably better. These custom-fitted orthotics will be created specifically to fit your foot. They are also constructed of stronger, better materials and will last longer.

Summit Spine and Wellness can fit your custom orthotics for you. We will examine your feet, posture, and evaluate your walk. We will discuss any symptoms and problems you might be experiencing, such as pain in your feet or legs, and whether you have any health conditions like diabetes. If we find that custom orthotics are the best option for you, we will take a three-dimensional picture of your foot. This will be used to create a custom orthotic, designed to improve your comfort and mobility.
